What do I do with the boxes?

I just built myself and my neighbor new computers. The components are identical. My question is, what of all the boxes and paperwork do I need to keep? Most everything I bought was retail, so it comes with good warranties. If something ever dies, what will I need to claim the warranty? Do I need to keep all the boxes and plastic? I know whenever I have had to return a DOA to newegg, they want it returned exactly like it was received, but I don't know how warranty stuff works. Should I register the stuff with the manufacturer?

Thanks for any advice.

It's a good idea to register with the manufacture even though I don't usually do it. As far as retail store returns go, you'd need to check with each place you purchased something from as requirements can vary. If a place *needs* the original packaging, I will keep it. I also keep it until the for the 30 days or so if I'm not sure I want an item and can return it easily that way.

I bought everything from Newegg. I guess my question is, since nothing was DOA, any problems I have will be with the manufacturer. So do I need anything if and when I claim the warranty?

If I think I will have to use them , then yes I kept the boxes.. if not for the warranty itself, but for the ease in shipping. That way you don't have to buy a box or worry about packing it right. I guess it depends on how much free storage space you have.

I would keep the boxes for a while, just in case you need to return a defective item. I have kept my boxes for at least 6 months, before getting rid of them.. Also I have registered all of my parts for warranty purposes..
