New build/major upgrade

So basically I need to upgrade everything since I have an agp card, IDE drives, and a socket A mobo. Here is what I have so far:

EVGA 122-CK-NF66-T1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813188017

EVGA 256-P2-N761-AR GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card:
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814130084

Rosewill RD500-2-DB 500W,ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply:
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817182044

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600:
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819115003

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400:
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820145590

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822144701

A few questions as well:
Why is the E6750 cheaper than the E6600 when the 6750 has a faster clock speed and fsb?
Is anything going to be dropping in price soon that would be worth holding out for?
Should I spend $60 more on an SLI board with 2 PCIe x16 slots (680i)?

And most importantly:
Seeing as how I'm a college student, can I save money anywhere without losing much performance?
[Edit] Right now it's a total of $707.86.

Thanks

I changed my PSU to:

ePOWER ZU-500W ATX12V Ver. 2.0/EPS 12V 500W Power Supply:
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817101011

in order to comply with the PSU guide on the forums here.

if the e6750 is cheeper, i would upgrade to that.

you might also want to check out seagate HD since that might be cheeper too, and still good quality

You'll be much happier if you put that E6600 on a P965 or P35 chipset board.

Yes, I'll be re-using my XP Pro. I've made a few changes...

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...tTitle=build02

I added a coolermaster case (since I'm hoping to sell my old pc) and noticed that newegg had a combo deal with that case and a coolermaster PSU so I changed that. I also switched to the e6750. Is the P965 or P35 chipset better for the e6750?

That list is pretty good.

While the CoolerMaster may look tempting with the bundle, I would switch to this Fortron unit instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 All of the rails are beefier, and Fotron's a bit better quality.

The P35 is the latest chipset from Intel for their future CPUs. The Intel 965 is older tech at this point. Check out the Asus P5K motherboard.

I switched to the Fortron unit. As for the motherboard, is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131180
worth $40 more than what I currently have selected. Is going to the P5K (basically going from the 650i to the P35) worth that?
[Edit] It also seems like some people are having problems running the cpu at 1333MHz fsb on this board.

Did you switch to the E6750? Cheaper but more powerful.

EDIT: Sorry, overlooked the wish list.
