I asked for help like 3-4 weeks ago on this forumn and everyone decided that my motherboard shorting out was the problem. I sent back the motherboard and I tried it again but even though I fixed the shorting problem I still get no boot up screen. In adition to this problem my dvd drive only opens when it's not plugged into the motherboard.
1. is there something wrong with my dvd drive 2. Do you think its my graphics card thats the problem or do you think it's the cpu and how can I tell? I just want to figure it out before I send everything back. Thanks for your help! |

First off, could you please list your system so people know what you have. If you already did in a previous post then you should post in that post. Without knowing your system no one will be able to provide any help

To me it sounds like it could very well be your processor, if you have the time and have another computer you could always swap the processor to see if it boots.

Is the system assembled outside of the case - with the bare minimum of components - as detailed in this thread?
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 If not, then do so, and let us know exactly what happens when you try and power the system on. Do the fans spin? Connect a case speaker - are there any beeps? Since it's unlikely that you received two faulty motherboards, I'd look elsewhere for the problem. Have you been able to substitute in a known-working power supply, yet? Low quality brands like Apevia have a higher-than-average DOA rate.

I have tried assembling it out of the case and I've gotten nothing. I know the power supply works (it makes the fans, LEDs, and cd drive work). I have another computer but it's a dell and I will be killed by my rents and brother if I touch it and its a pentium 4. What should I do now?
Also I have no other working power supplys that I could even test if I wanted to. |

Just because the fans and LEDs go doesn't mean the PSU automatically works. It could very well be putting out only a bit of power and not enough to boot the system.
When the system does not boot after the out of the case procedure, you need to start substituting parts to find the problem area. I would start with the power supply. Even if it turns out to be another component that is faulty, Apevia power supplies should never be used in a computer. Check out our thread for good brands to buy here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

But I already said I have no other power supply to use...
And I don't have any more money. Literally. I spent it all on my computer. |

Have a friend you could borrow one from?
Have any PC repair shops in the area that could test your machine? There is no magic fix in this situation. |

Ok I (sorta) figured out the problem... The 12v power connector wasn't plugged in! (doh!) But now that it's plugged in nothing powers up at all, not even the power supply. When it is not plugged in all the fans and LEDs go.... Any Ideas?

Do you still have the motherboard out of the case with just the bare minimum parts assembled?

Nope, but someone who has done this before came over to my house. He shook the computer and it works now! I guess there was nothing wrong and no motherboard problems fromt the start. Thanks for everybodys help!
