My personal revisions to save money and gain power.

Optic - Lite-On - $32
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106055

Video Card - eVGA 8600 GT - $115 ($100 after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130085

PSU - Thermaltake 430W - $40 (this is just a personal thing and the build is not a high power cost build)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153023

MOBO - Biostar - $80 (im not GREAT with mobos but i think this will handle everything just fine)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138026

Processor - AMD 5600+ - $150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103771

My total with shipping (to my area)
Grand Total: $774.94

I wouldnt run away with it. Im sure other members can add their input or whatever they may feel neccasary. But its my feeling that just for about 10 dollers more you could have more power to the PC. Though its not needed what you have picked out is plenty powerful on its own. Im just trying to throw ideas out.

I think your list, Chazell, is a good one. You're using quality parts, which is very important. Is your friend looking for a gaming system, here?

Yeah not like extreme gaming, just to give a decent gaming performance so it does'nt have to be top line, just decent performance. I tried to peice the most decent gaming system using the quality parts ive used and been recommended for his price range.

I'd definitely agree with jer888, here. I think the x1950pro represents better value for money. Brand preference is one thing, but you can't argue with this card's performance for the money (I own one myself). I'd personally recommend this ASUS version, as it has a very good cooler:

My point is that the video card plays a huge part in gaming performance, and I'd say the 7600GT is underpowered compared to the rest of the components you chose. If your budget is fixed, how about saving a few bucks with this motherboard?

Yes, it's an older chipset and therefore less 'upgradable' than the P5K, but ask your friend what he'd like for his money - better upgradabiliy or raw performance? I think the latter should come first when the budget is tight.

Yeah that card is already the best card in its price range, and its even cheaper now. It would really help alot.

I would take this article into consideration when deciding on your video card. TomsHardware updates it fairly often so it's quite accurate.
