Asus P5B rejecting memory....

I have a new build using Asus P5B motherboard, and am using 2 x Corsair DDR2 800Mhz 11024 Mb memory. The board is rejecting the memory - One long beep, three short beeps. I don't know whether its because the memory is bad, or the board won't support it.

Anyone got any experience with this memory and the P5B??

did you try just installing one stick at a time, to see if maybe just one stick is bad?

try memcheck89 to test memory

yes, tested one stick at a time, and in each of the slots.

I get one long beep and three short beeps, no matter what.

Surely it can't be two dead sticks?

Do you have another computer or know someone else who does that would let you try your ram in theirs? It could be a memory problem or a motherboard problem, that would determine which.

sure of the beep codes really are RAM and not something else that could be an issue? what does it say in your motherboard manual?

Long followed by 3 short, 2nd from bottom, its memory or motherboard problem, try changing one of them to see which is the culprit.

I have tried some different memory that is known to be working, and I still get the one long three short beeps with that.

This is the second ASUS motherboard I've had - the first one was RMA'd because it wouldn't even beep. Surely I can't have two duff motherboards in a row? I have ordered some new memory, but I am really struggling:

1 x Asus motherboard RMA'd
Second motherboard won't accept memory that I ordered with first board
Have ordered new memory

I can't keep on spending money like this....

Problem sorted!

I decided to do a complete re-build, starting with the motherboard outside the case on top of its cardboard box. One memory stick worked first time with the mobo resting on its cardboard box, so tried second, and that worked too!

Suspected short, but on replacing mobo into case, it still worked fine. So I suspect that the flex in the mobo when using standoffs was enough to stop the memory seating properly.

Phew!

Now I only have to sort out the lousy refresh rate on the video.
