Upgrade my pc a little :)

Hi all.

Ok i have a old pc thats not to bad its runs HL2 on max with 40-100 fps woo lol.

But when it comes Counter strike and putting like 16 bots on my cpu cant handle it and i get about 6-7 fps .

So i was thinking untill i can get my new pc witch will be in 4-5 months would this upgrade be worth it to keep me gaming untill i got some more cash ?

my pc spec atm is

CPU = P4 2.8 HT
motherboard = msi ... thats all i Know and its about 3-4 years old lol
RAM = 1 gig 3200
PSU = hiper 580 watts modular
GFX = BFG 7800 GS OC 256 MB AGP
Harddrive = 80 gig idle ( can this be used in the new mother board i have chosen ? thanks)
DvD rom
windows xp home

Ok so i looking at this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CP-151-IN

Now its only a 1.60GHz so not sure how much better that would to the P4 2.8 i have now ?

And with duel core cpu i need a board that can use it so http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MB-011-AK

That one seem ok?

and 1 gig of ram now days is not very good for games so http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MY-096-CS

All works out for £156.53

I like to buy stuff from overclockers and ebuyer and they seem the best price and i live in the uk.

Thanks for any help

Hmmm... That's pretty odd.

Your Counterstrike FPS rates should be very similar to the one of HL2 as it runs on the same engine.

Your current rig should be able to play CounterStrike Source no problem.

Try updating your video card drivers.

I'm not saying do this, but if you can, a system reformat w/ fresh drivers should fix your FPS problem in CS:S.

I think if you can hold on for another 4-5 months it would be worth it and get a whole new system. I don't think the upgrades would be worth it, so i think you should just tuck that $300 away and put it towards your new system in 4-5 months.

Yeah i updated my drivers to the latest ones and i used driver cleaner as well but i was thinking that it was my cpu as the more bots i have the more cpu slows down i will give another try later

Thanks

That MSI board is probably a socket 478 and the Intel dual core CPUs use a socket LGA 775 socket so you can't go to a Dual Core CPU.

He did post the board that he wanted to upgrade to.

I still say your rig should be fine currently for CSS.

The only upgrade I would even consider is more ram. Going up to 2g might show an improvement and it is a pretty cheep fix. I had the same situation with my old system, upgrades mean a new mb, new vid card, and new ram, at the minimum and at that point it just does not make a lot of sense.
