Are the CD/DVD Drives SATA or IDE? (SATA are red cables, and thin. IDE are usually white, and are really wide, over 1" wide)
Also, to keep up with todays latest technology, yoru old harddrive will most likely be IDE, and won't work very well with the top motherboards now aday. What is your budget? Using old parts isn't a good idea for a gaming rig becasue the technology is going to be outdated.

www.newegg.com is recommended here for USA buyers, and www.ncix.com is recommended for Canadian buyers
For a motherboard, personally I would go with one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131180 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128050 For a processor, a Intel Core 2 Duo would be great for your needs. Such as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115013 For memory, Corsair is generally recommended here. One GB of memory should do you fine for your needs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145040 For a video card, you don't need anything too fancy, Maybe a 7300 or 8500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130270 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130285 You dont need a soundcard as both of those motherboards have onboard sound cards. Unless you are a audiophile with a kickass sound system, no need for a sound card. EDIT: @ Chazell, I dont think he games so the older hard drive shouldnt be a problem. But since you will be using this machine to download music you might want to consider a faster 7200RPM sata drive. Last edited by Gen.Ben; 08-26-2007 at 10:08 PM. |

Also, what type of games are you goign to be playing? Becaue if you want to play latest games such at battlefield 2 and counter strike source with decent graphics, go with 2GB of Corsair Value Select RAM. Also, a 7300 or an 8500 won't be good enough for those games. go with either an 8600GT or a X1950XT. If you want to go wtih a Core 2 Duo, go with the E4400, its faster, and is like $2 more than that E4300 listed. |
