splat OS Boot problems

Hello everyone,

First time PC builder here, obviously I am having problems but first things first--System Specs:

MB: ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
HD: Seagate 320GB Sata ST3320620AS
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 64 6000+
RAM: G-SKILL (2x 1GB)
VIDEO CARD: XFX Geforce 8600 GT
SOUND CARD: Chaintech AV710
CD-RW: LG GCE 8527B (OEM)
DVD-RW: Samsung SH-S182D/BEBE (OEM)
PSU: Coolermaster 550W

The problem:
I am trying to install Windows XP professional on my system but I have been unable to do so...
Computer boots up fine into the bios, stable temp reading on CPU and MB. Everything is recognized except for the CD-RW and DVD-RW drives on the IDE cable. Both drives are set to Cable Select mode and have power, will open and close, etc--however they are not recognized in BIOS.
When I insert my boot cd into either of them it does the blinking light like its reading it but when I try to boot it gives me a "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" every time.
I have the cd drives set as the first boot device in the boot settings.

So looking for some advice here, is my boot cd the problem (it loads up fine when i insert it into my old laptop or roommates computers) or is it that my drives are not being recognized?!??

All help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Nate

So, I tried that didn't work and in the process decided to switch out the new IDE cable ASUS provided me with the MB with an old one I had lying around...worked like a charm I am pissed I didn't think to do that earlier.

Thanks for the quick response though, I appreciate it.

Try setting one drive to master and the other to slave. Cable select doesn't always work on all computers, or in some cases, all drives
