Educated guess
Hi Gang
I am asking for all your educated guesses/opinions here. I have a used Gigabyte MOBO, (Don't know the history of it) With a Pent D CPU, (also don't know the history of) When turned on I get nothing, no fans, no sounds, etc. I have tried 2 different power supply's, 2 different sticks of Ram. No smoke, not any thing feeling hot, etc. New Express card used also. Nothing shorted, checked the mounting screws, etc. Everything connected correctly. Everything checked and double checked to be installed corrrectly. It is the correct CPU, Ram, MOBO combination, this also was checked several times. What is everybodys educated guess as to it being the MOBO or the CPU.??? Can any one think of anything I can do out side of swapping parts to pin point the problem.? Thanks and take care..........Gunny |

i'd probably say the MB, but think you'd have to actually do a swap of cpu's to be sure.

Hi shadowpr
That was quick. I think I have another CPU around that will work in it, that is my next thing to try. The board does not have any power LEDs, and the LEDs on the front panel do not light up either. I forgot to mention that. I mean it is just dead. I said it was a Pent D, but it might be a 775. This should not change anything though, as far as the problem. Thanks.........Gunny |

Pull the motherboard from the case while troubleshooting this type of problem.

Educated guess
Hi gang and Cricket.
Ok I did the swap. I took the Pent D, and installed it in another good MOBO, a Gigabyte 945GZM-S2, and it comes on, fans, etc. Now that tells me since it did nothing with the other MOBO it was bad not the CPU. Ok now it goes through its process and comes up to the screen where it tells you wants all inside, and says to "insert boot up disk". I am assuming they mean the disc that came with the MOBO. I do so and hit enter and it comes back with the same message. Now on this board it has only one IDE port. So you are supposed to connect the HD, optical drive, on the same ribbon, according to the book that came with the MOBO. No 2 IDE connectors. It is acting like the optical drive in not reading the disc, but I just used it several times last night, and it works great, any ideas.? Thanx........Gunny |

What brand of psu did you try? does this board use the standard ATX 20pin connector or the ATX 2.0 with the 4pin connector? try the out of the case build listed here http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=168456 and you must remove the mother board from the case...

Educated guess
Hi doubledragon
Ya I did this. I started this in another post on here. It was dead, really dead. Before I installed this new MOBO in the case I did try it first like the post describes, and it did power up, so I installed it back in the case, and I have a good HD connected and a good DVD burner too. And I am getting this, boot up disc thing. And no matter how I have the start up set, HD first, CDrom first, it will not recognize it it seems. I am using the disc that came with the MOBO. Thanks and Take care........Gunny |

You install the Windows OS first before using the motherboard CD to load drivers.
