First build - mobo/case/fans
Only some parts have arrived at this stage so build has not started. However, when examining what has arrived I’m a bit puzzled and could do with some help pse?
Q1 motherboard / ram I have this motherboard. ASUS P5KE/WIFI-AP http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=335581 The motherboard spec on Komplett web site says the supported ram speed is PC2-5300 and PC2-6400 – I ordered corsair twin2X DDR22-6400 – this link http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=312054 On reading the manual which came with the motherboard, it says it supports DDR2 1066/800/667MHz. It says “it supports up to 800MHz officially and tuned by the ASUS Super Memspeed technology the board natively supports up to DDR2 1066MHz”. Am I still OK with the memory I got? Q2 Case / fan cabling My case is Coolermaster mystique 632s, this link http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=338203 I am not referring here to the CPU fan, just the front / back fans. The motherboard manual says the fans (2) should be connected to sockets on the motherboard, and there are 6 mobo sockets for fans – cpu fan, power fan, 4 x chassis fans. However, the cable from each fan is connected into a power cable connector – it looks to me like the fans just get connected to the PSU and NOT to the motherboard. The case manual does not say. Can anyone familiar with this case confirm how the front / back fans should connect in pse? Q3 Case / Audio cabling The front panel audio connector cable (10-1 pin AAFP) terminates first in a HD AUDIO connector, then in an AC ‘97 connector, and then from both of these connectors there are 11 individual wires with connectors. I intended to connect the HD AUDIO connector to the mobo and not the AC’97 connector. I can’t see where these 11 other individual wires go? The case manual does not say. Can someone advise pse? nomadic |

You will be fine just connecting the fans to the Power Supply directly. The fans probably have pass through connectors so that you can daisy chain them all together so you don't use up too many power plugs.

and the memory will work
and as far as i know, the connection for the ac 97 won't get used if you use the hd audion, so just tuck it away.

thanks for the quick response. I'm happy now about the memory and the HD AUDIO connector. Do I just tuck away the 11 loose wires also? If so, what am I missing? or why are they there? nomadic |
