Building computer for friend
My friend asked me to build him a computer. He'll be using this computer mostly for gaming but also for other general computer applications. His budget is around $1000, and he plans to buy in the next month or two.
Parts list: Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115029 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131180 Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034 Optical drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072 Video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130038 OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Pack%2b-%2bOEM The total is around $1100. Any way to shave a few dollars off? Maybe some cheaper ram? Thanks for the help. |

you can save $20 if you get this very PSU from Buy.com.
Frys.com has really good deals on cases sometimes - keep checking. Other than that it's only a matter of hitting a sale on certain items on Newegg... |

Well, you have done your homework and that is a good list of parts. If the budget really has to be cut you could:
1. Drop to the E6550, still a very fast processor. 2. Look at Crucial, G-Skill, and OCZ ram and see if any have a sell or rebate on. I am kind of partial to Corsair myself but have heard good things about all of those makers. 3. If you are not planning on OC'ing the system you could also drop down to Corsair Value Select 667. At stock speeds it is all you need. 4. There are some other good PSU makers out there so you might save a bit shopping FS, Antec, OCZ, and others on the Good List. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 You have a very nice system speced out so I would only make changes from quality to quality. Thanks Kat. Changed a few things:
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145568 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115030 He may or may not switch to an Antec Nine Hundred: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021 Other than that, I guess he's good to go. |

Same question as Max, hope that is just a typo. I would suggest you keep it at 2g for the ram, 2 g is becomming the new standard for a gamer.
I like the 900 and used it on my last build. It happens to be a case that goes on sell often so shop around before you buy. Frys had it on sell a couple of months ago and Newegg ran a good rebate last month. Over all it was very easy to work with and the only negative I had was wire management. It can be a challenge if you want it pretty inside. Kat |

Yea but he won't be wanting to send the MIR in since it voids the warranty.
