you dont need the sound card you have onboard audio which should work just fine
could use the extra money for this video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130084 or just save the money and keep the current card |

its all compatible, however you wont need that 750W powersupply, go for a corsair 520W HX one and save some cash.
as stated onboard audio should be enough too. do you need operating system or anything else?

Not familiar with the SE but if it has features you want then that is fine.
You pay a premium of $100 for the E6850 cpu, if you want to save a bit drop down to the E6750 which is just slightly less powerful and more bang for the buck. Are you planning on 2 G of ram or 4 G? If you go with 4 you should plan on Vista 64 to take advantage of it. You did not say what you will use the computer for but assuming it is gaming you should try to fit a 8800 GTS in your budget if you can. Right now you have a very high end CPU and a middle of the road Video card, I would suggest trying to balance them more if gaming is planned. Use the $100 from a drop in CPU to upgrade video card. If you are not gaming your choice might be fine depending on what your main use will be. Agree with others, try on-board sound first, sound card is easy to add later if you are not satisfied. Also agreeing with the others your PSU is overpowered for your system and you could save a bit there. Kat

Yeah this PC would mainly be for gaming and surfing the net.
I agree with the sound card comments. Its gone. Im only planning on 2GB of RAM, unless anyone has good reasons to get more, and Im only planning of running XP 32-bit. So 2gig should be enough? Um, with the power supply, I was thinking, wouldnt it be better to have a bigger power supply just in case I decide to put in another Hard Drive, like another 500GB WD or upgrade to a better Graphics Card? Also, will everything fit in that Case properly? Thanks so far! |

2 g is plenty for just about anything you do right now. You just wrote 2X 2048 so was not sure what you were saying. Head room is good but you have alot of it. The system could easily run on most quality 500w PSUs so you could come down to the Corsair 520 or 620 and still have plenty of headroom in the system for upgrades. Having 750 does not hurt though.

I would recommend this PSU: $100 - http://www.buy.com/prod/corsair-520w...203270716.html
It has plenty of power for upgrading (as long as you don't do SLI), and it isn't too expensive. Take the money you save on the CPU ($100) and the PSU ($90) and the existing video card choice ($70) and add about $30 more and you can get a great gamer card: 8800GTS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082 Enjoy your build!

OK, so I'll drop down to the Cosair 520W power supply to save some cash. Andper10, like you mentioned I dont think I'll be wanting to go SLi. As long as I can still play games with some fairly nice detail Ill be happy.
With the E6750 cpu, will I see much of performance drop from the E6850? On the radio last night I heard the gamers over in that massive gaming comp had a 2.66GHz cpu overclocked at 5GHz!! Mind you they had the cpu running at -115 degrees celcius. Can mine do that? LOL. Katreat, it was meant to say 2x 1024MB RAM. But comparing the two below RAM modules, is there much difference? Cosair Twin 2x1024MB 240-PIN DDR2 XMS-6400 RAM http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/index....info.php?input[product_code]=AL-TWIN2X2048-6400C4&input[category_id]=1450 Cosair Twin 2x1024MB 240-PIN DDR2 800MHz PC-6400 http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/index....info.php?input[product_code]=AL-T2X2048-64C4DHX&input[category_id]=1450 One last thing about the Graphics options. What, if any, are the differences in these two graphics cards? eVGA nVidia 8800GTS Superclocked 320MB PCI-E x16 http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/index....info.php?input[product_code]=AL-E-8800GTS-320SC&input[category_id]=1506 eVGA nVidia 8800GTS 320MB PCI-E x16 http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/index....info.php?input[product_code]=AL-E-8800GTS-320&input[category_id]=1506 Ok, that should do for a nice long read. Thanks for all your help so far. This is making it soo much easier. |

Well, you links did not show me what I think they where suppose to but just from what the title says you should go for the XMS memory. if there are more than one XMS then I think they recommend the 5-5-5 timing but I dont think it makes a big difference.
same problem with cards, links are not showing me items. But the super clocked is a factory overclock, it will be a bit faster than the regular 8800GTS 320. I have the superclock version in my system, it is fast, but only reason I went for it is because it was on sell at the time and cost about the same. As for the two cpu you can check out Toms Hardware site and compair them for performance. The 6850 is faster, but IMO not $100 faster. I always look for that "bang for the buck" possition and the 6750 holds that spot right at the moment. Kat |

Like Katreat said, you should look at the graphs here: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_20...=873&chart=419 . The E6750 is right below the Core 2 Extreme X6800 preformance wise, so I think that the E6750 willl be plenty of power.
The superclocked version is probably only worth it if it costs less than $25 more over the normal card. I would take the cheaper out of the two ram choices as long as they are both Corsair XMS DDR2 800. Sorry, I just now noticed that you live in Australia. You sould Private Message some vetran members (Cricket, Alaron) about good online stores that deliver to Austrailia. |
