first computer biuld. won't boot. Help!!!
I just finished biulding my first computer. When I start it, the case and cpu fans turn on and the dvdrom turns on but the computer doesn't boot up ands the monitor screen stays blank. The haed drive I am using is a pull from my old computer so I know that it works. The same goes for the ram that I put in. Can anybody help me? I was looking forward to building my first computer, I don't want it to be just a big dissapointment. (and waste of money)

Welcome to PCMech.
What brand/model of power supply are you using? Are all of the power connections in place? Try this troubleshooter, taking care to remove the motherboard from the case: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409

From what the label says my power supply is
Xcalibur model: XC-400A 400W SATA ATX Power Supply I connected the 24 pin adapter as well as the 4 pin adapter to the motherboard. All the other power connections are plugged in as well. When I turn it on all the fans will work as well as the dvd rom but the computer just won't boot up. Last edited by filio623; 09-12-2007 at 10:03 PM. |

Did you remove the motherboard from the case for troubleshooting yet? It's a very important step when troubleshooting a problem such as yours. If the motherboard is shorting/grounding out to the case that's exactly what you'll see...no image on the monitor and a system that doesn't do anything.
Did you install the standoffs under the motherboard?  Cricket
