Boom Need help getting with new build

Ok this is not my first build but it is my first build startring with a new HD.

First my components:

MSI K9VGM-V Micro-ATX motherboard AM2 Socket
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4200+
eVGA GeForce 8500 GT Video Card Pci-e w/256Mb
2GB (2x1GB) PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2 Desktop DIMMs
WD Caviar® SE16 SATA Hard Drive 320 GB, 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM
Lite-On Technology 20x DL DVD+/-RW Drive, Internal, SATA

Ok the HD is brand new and has not been formatted. I am able to boot to the Data Lifeguard tools but it will not allow me to pick the drive to format it. It gets to that section but will not let me choose it. I have other IDE drives at my disposal and have tried hooking them up and I can reformat them but then I am unable to install the XP Professional Sp2.

It will not boot from the XP CD for some reason. So I can boot from another and get to the drive. I goto the I386 directory - type in winnt and I get an error saying there is no swap file available and hit enter to restart or something. What could be my problem and how do I get an operating system on this machine. Its driving me crazy. Please help.

Thanks,

Gator

does your MB have native SATA support for the new SATA hard drive? if not you may need to install the drivers from a floppy or a CD.

to boot from windows cd when booting hit the delete key and enter BIOS, you can then in the menus change boot order and put CD higher on the list. should then boot into windows cd and you should then be able to format and install etc.

Ok sorry I didn't go over this more. I did change the boot up sequence and am able to boot from the western digital CD but not the windows one. And yes my MB has onboard support for SATA. I'm really at a loss and need some ideas.

Thanks,

Gator
