New Build - help!

Howdy..

After a bit of soul searching and anger directed towards a certain person who messed around with my last computer i decided it was time to build a new one. But alas, now im having issues and im hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I followed all the directions in the manual that came with the mobo, so i'm 99% sure i have the jumper set correctly and everything seated correctly (I double checked the cpu - the video card is onboard). My basic problem is once the pc is turned on, all the fans power up and lights come on, but i get no response from my monitor, no beeps and no post.

I also tried removing the motherboard (from the notes in the sticky post) and only plugged in the cpu, one stick of ram and the monitor and still nothing. Is there any way to tell if this is my cpu or if i just fried my mobo? Unfortunately my old build has no spare parts i can test in my new build...

specs:

Mobo: ECS GeFORCE6100SM-M Socket AM2
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+ CPU Dual-Core (2 x 2.8GHz)
G.Skill 2 X 1GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Edit: one more thing...once powered up i also am unable to open/close the dvdrom drive. I thought this would work regardless of the mobo...could it be my power supply even though it spins up a-ok?

Would help to know the brand/model/size of the PSU. Also, check to make sure that the 24 pin main ATX plug AND the 4 pin CPU plug from the PSU are firmly seated into the motherboard.

sorry

Whats in there now is a thermaltake 430W PSU Model: XP550 NP

Just out of curiosity i went over to Best Buy and picked up an Antec Truepower trio (430Watt)

http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=23430

But there was no change to the system.

EDIT: Yes, i also checked that both the 24pin and 4 pin were firmly seated. I removed and replugged several times to make sure

Would try clearing the BIOS by pulling the battery on the motherboard for 5 minutes and put it back in. This is done with the PC unplugged.
Doing this should set the BIOS to defaults.
