Build for "internet, DVD burning/watching, music"

What type of rig should I be looking at here?

What type of video card would I need? Surely nothing too heavy-duty?

The rig won't be used for any gaming or anything aside from 'internet surfing, burning and watching DVDs and movies, and downloading/listening to music', but it sounds like he wants some muscle behind it all.

Edit: he also wants a monitor on which he can watch TV and use it for his PC. I'm thinking along the lines of 20-24inch. Any suggestions?

What kind of budget are you working with? For a basic PC, its tough to beat a Dell.

Will HD video content (ie, HD-DVD or Blu-ray) be a use in the future? If so, you'll probably want a semi-powerful video card that supports HDCP. A healthy size hard drive (500GB isn't a bad price) would be a necessity. A somewhat beefy CPU (ie, Core 2 Duo E6750 or so) would probably be good for the DVDs.

What price range are we looking at? This will determine a lot.

This guy works for a credit card company and is asking me for a quote. I think it's just cheaper = better, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind blowing an extra couple hundred if need be.

Does the quote have to include the OS, keyboard, mouse and speakers along with the big monitor too? If so, give him a rough quote of $1200 and then you should easily be able to bring the computer in for under that price.

AMD or INTEL?
