compatability issues laptop>desktop

are there any parts that can be transfered over to a used gutted case from a laptop? like the audio or video cards or even using the internal hardrive from the laptop as an external for the pc, or anything else that might work i am working on a media center project and am poor poor poor man.

You can re-use the hard drive via and external enclosure. Or for about $6.99 you can get an adaptor and make it an internal drive.

There are some BIG gaming laptops that use full size components, they would be transferable. But overall most lap tops use components that are low energy and generally less powerful than desktop components so you would take a big performance hit.

thanks for the info, it was a gaming laptop when it came out 4 years ago. it has good parts still compared to what is out there. P4 1g ram. will the ram change over? i dont know barely anything about computers and stuff but im learning

Laptop's use different RAM than a desktop. At least, I've never seen desktop RAM in a laptop before...

For the most part, laptops are very proprietary. You can't really take much out and use it in another system. Drives and RAM being the big exception.
