another "first build" guy
Alright well my current pc is beginning to wear out its welcome... I'm a big MMO gamer and I need to upgrade badly! I've probably had this one for maybe 5 years? could be longer. It's been upgraded slightly within that frame, but I had my local computer shop do the legwork for me.
I'm currently reading a book to help me figure out all the hardware lingo and what exactly does what when it comes to building pc's. So I'm still in the process of doing my homework. I shouldn't forget to mention that I am on a budget, but I really want to be able to run games of Oblivion quality pretty well. This is what I have so far, any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm just not sure if everything is compatible with eachother. MoBo ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600 - Retail PSU CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 520W Power Supply - Retail HDD Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250310AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Graphics Card EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail RAM CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400 - Retail I still need a DVD-ROM drive and I plan to use my current pc case, if I find out I need more room I'll just get a new one. I'm also probably going to get a nice sound card, I know the MoBo has one, but i'd like a good one. |

I would advise you to get the E6750 over the E6600, it is cheaper and faster.
![]() Also if you spend around $10 more, you can get the 320GB version of that Seagate hdd (that's if you want to). I personally go for Lite-On optical drives, whatever you choose - make sure it has a SATA connection, not IDE. If I were you, I would first try the sound with the onboard card, and if you decide later that it isn't good enough you can purchase a decent sound card later. |

I second everything Jimmy said. Here are some links to those things.
E6750: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115029 Seagate 320GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140 Lite-On: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072 Proably no need for a sound card unless you plan on running music programs on this computer. |
