Trying to build a HTPC
I have just put together a Zalman HD160 case, a ECS P965T-A mobo, a Intel C2D Q6600, 1.5G Ram a Lite DVD Rewriter and Samsung 500GB SATA Hard drive. Tried to boot and install windows vista home premium, but computer keeps freezing during installation. Sometimes I get as far as final bit of installation, sometimes only a few stages in.
I must be now onto my 4th attempt and each installation attempt is still on Hard drive, but have to start a new one. Can't work out why the freezing is occuring. Power supply is Atrix 650w and power doesn't seem to be an issue. Memory shouldn't be a problem as I have used this memory with the mobo previously. The windows vista has been installed with this mobo and memory before, but it seems like a software issue, but how do i get around it? Help! |

If you added the quad core for this build, may need to update the BIOS.

thanks
if the bios is showing the details of the new processor (which it is), does that mean it has recognised it and if so, do you think I still need a bios update?

To verify that the BIOS on your board supports quads, go to the ECS website and check your BIOS version against the ones that support the quads.
Would also check that the CPU heatsink is fully and correctly latched to the motherboard. If it isn't, that could cause the CPU to slowly overheat. Check the voltages of the PSU in the BIOS, pay close attention to the 12v reading. If any of the voltages spike or droop more than 10% of rated then may have a PSU problem. |
