Comp Rebuild Questions

Well its been a few years since i made my comp and im looking to rebuild it...

1st
Im looking at AMD Athlon 64 X2 socket AM2.. what would be a good model to go with? a 4000 for around 60$ or 6000 for 160$.. With cost in mind, I'm trying to keep the cpu to under 100$ if possible but is the 6000 worth the extra $?

2nd
Anyone know a good Asus motherboard thats around 100$ (or cheaper) as well and supports the above cpu? Ive found these so far http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131214

Depends. The 6000 will be faster and be slightly more future proof. Depending on what you are upgrading from I would spend at least a $100 on a CPU.

Probably the best choice right now.

You would be better off to give a budget. Buy a card solely based on on board RAM is not a good idea.

You say re-build so I assume you will be re-using stuff? Please list your current system and what if anything you plan to re-use. Also, what is your budget for the entire rebuild?

Been alot of changes over the last few years and things like having to support IDE hardware is becomming a more of a challenge on newer MB. So provide the full picture of what you wish to accomplish and then people can start making suggestions that should fit your need.

I have a 250g samsung SATA HDD that i am using, an asus CD burner, an asus dvd drive, and an apevia 500w power supply. Along with a copy of windows xp pro and my old atx case. so ultimately im looking for the mobo, cpu, memory, and a video card for hopefully no more than 400$

Well, have not buildt AMd for quite awhile but the most highly recommended MB seems to be the Asus M2N-E.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131022

For ram I usually recommend Corsair. But if you are trying to keep it tight you might check out GKill, killer price for 2g.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098

Now that is about $170 so it is going to be tight keeping both CPU and Vid card under $230.
I would recommend getting somethinig like an 8600 GT which would set you back about $130 or so. If you dont really care if you have 10x, you could save the $30 and get a X1950 GT or 7600 GT for about $100. That would force you to stick with the lower cost CPU.

If you could squeze another $50 into your budget then you could go with maybe the 8600 vid card and a 5600 CPU which has very good reviews.
