What will you be using this computer for? If you are doing much gaming your vid card is a bit light, but for everyday computing it is fine. If gaming, try to get an 8800 GTS in the budget.
You dont need the aftermarket cpu fan or the thermal grease. Stock coolers are fine unless you plan to do heavy Overclocking and the stock heatsink/fan comes with a thermal pad pre-applied. Using aftermarket coolers will void your warrenty. Dont need an SLI MB unless you plan on SLI. I would recommend the Asus P5K. It has the newer P35 chipset and is a quality board. About 4 versions so just pick the one that suits your needs. On board sound on newer MB is very good, and Vista has changed the way many sound card features work anyway. Would suggest you try on-board sound first, and add sound card later if you think you need it. The on-board is really good. At this time the 64 bit OS is only really needed if you are running more than 3g of ram. Since you are only planning on 2, which will handle most computing needs, you dont really need 64 bit. If you are just going there to future proof your system that is fine, but keep in mind that some older applications will not work with a 64 bit OS and 64 bit OS support has been a bit slow at times, so there are some trade-offs. Kat

thanks for the input. i was told by a few friends to get the cpu fan and thermal paste because the reviews for newegg suggested that this motherboard overheats and needed those, please let me know for sure, because it would be nice if i dont need it!
I did want to maybe eventually add the 2nd sound card and maybe expand to 4 gigs of ram! so maybe thats why i wanted SLI and vista 64? at this point if all the parts i picked are compatible, i would need help finding a good drives set. i need burner and regular reader but i was told i can actually use 2 burner drives? can u guys help? i was lookin at LG. thanks |

a good burner is a lite-on drive that's retail: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072
if you want, you can get 2, or just get a reader, or just stay with the one. and like kat said, unless you're overclocking, forget the cpu fan and thermal paste.

We recommend Lite-On drives because they come with Nero burning software. Most drives don't have any software included. Samsung opticals aren't great. LG's offerings are good though, aside from the software issue. Just be sure to get one that uses SATA not IDE.

That one looks fine. You can get away with just one of those and a DVDROM drive. You can still burn and read anything with that setup.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144151 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146025 and this is last resort, if those 2 dont work.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144026 |

links aren't working
but just a side note: cases are more of a personal choice then anything. just find what you like. as long as it's not a microatx case, the MB should fit. just look under specifications to see if it says it will fit atx. Last edited by shadowpr; 10-03-2007 at 11:15 AM. |

Hi Makavetis....just wanted to add that I just bought the mx3200 keyboard/mouse and I don't like it at all. I play a lot of stuff like BF2 and can't stand its responsiveness. I'm use to the Logitech 518 mouse and I'm spoiled. But I don't really like the keyboard or mouse. I guess if you don't play fps games...you might not mind it.

List looks compatable.
You wont need the thermal grease, the stock heatsink will come with a thermal pad pre-applied. I would recomend getting one of your optical drives "retail". Retail LGs come with Nero so if you get one retail you will get a some very nice burning software for a couple of bucks. Kat |
