right power supply for x1950 xt video card?

i built a gaming computer for my brother's friend and it runs fine except it lags pretty bad in games like battlefield 2. with all the components the newegg.com watt calculator thing said i'd need a little under 500w. http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817709011 is the 580w power supply i got for the radeon x1950 xt video card and a 4 pin to 6pin PCIe power adapter because the power supply didn't have one. so do you think the power supply would be the problem?

Welcome to PCMech.

There is no such thing as a good 580w power supply for $20. Replace that thing ASAP. It may or may not be the issue, but you are taking chances with such a low end unit. Pop in this unit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104037

How much RAM is installed in the system? BF2 runs much smoother with 2GB.

A 580 watt PSU for only $20?!? You're lucky it didn't burst into flames the first time you powered the system up. I agree with Alaron...you should replace it with a good quality power supply before something bad happens. Cheap power supplies don't have over-voltage and have a tendency to die suddenly. When that happens they sometimes send a huge surge into the system and parts get fried.
