Help on finding the right Mobo/CPU

Hey I'm new to this site, I like how this is a helpful forum for all users. Just a quick question.

I do play games, anything that is simple to graphic/ram demanding.

Here is the problem, I just bought 2gb of DDR ram. And not so long ago, a Geforce 7600GT AGP slot video card. I love both, but I am looking for a new mobo/cpu since I had it for years. I was wondering if there was any ideas on gamer mobos with a nice high FBS(frontside bus speed) that allows me to use DDR and higher ram, with a AGP slot. Any ideas?

Another problem I'm having is after installing my high performance ram, whenever I am in a first shooter game such as Battlefield 2, CounterStrike Source, it video lags a little. Wondering if it has to do anything with my RAM or Video card. Thanks guys! Any help would be appreciated!

Please list the parts to your current system. To be honest, just with what little you have posted, I doubt that an upgrade is the way to go. Any new system uses DDR2 ram and a PCI vid card so the only upgrade I would even maybe consider would be to keep your current MB and perhaps add a faster CPU. If you go for a MB change then it would be best to start over with new tech and have something for the future.

That processor is not bad, i mean you can definitly get worse. I'm a bit confused as I didn't know they clocked the 478 chipset Pentium 4s to 3.0GHz. That looks more like an LG775 slot board. But whatever.

That's Socket 478. Any ASUS P4xxx is Socket 478 I believe, and P5xxx is LGA775. And yes, there were 3GHZ 478's - up to 3.4GHz.

A faster CPU will require a new mobo and new RAM. That's as high as the 478's went and almost all LGA775 boards need DDR2 and PCI-E video cards.

At any rate, what settings are you running games at? That's still a decent system but I don't think you are going to run games maxed out at high resolutions.

Finding good ATX size 478 boards are pretty much a thing of the past and the transition boards for AGP and socket 775 are also pretty much gone from the market. That leaves a new build in the Intel 775 CPUs or AMD AM2 CPUs.
