Power Supply Question

For this video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133187
what power supply is better ?

http://www.antec.com/Detail.bok?no=484
or
http://www.xoxide.com/ocz-gamexstream-700w-psu.html

(Video Card) I think the GTX is noticably better than the GTS. There is also the Ultra but almost double the price of the GTX

Are you going to run only a single video card or two video cards in SLi?

This one looks good but may be too big for the Antec 900 even tho newegg recommends it as an essential

I doubt you'll need anything that powerful if just running a single graphics card.

If you're just going to run one 8800GTX then this Corsair 550 watt PSU is a good choice. Here's a review.

For me, the GTX will give you top gaming performance while still maintaining reasonable value for money. The performance jump with the Ultra does NOT justify the price difference - it's marketed for those who HAVE to have the best regardless of the cost.

I'd trust the Corsair unit Cricket linked to any single video card setup. A slightly more expensive option is this - very similar in terms of power output, but this unit has modular cables.

I read that tw vid cards give 80% preformance gain over a single card. Now is this BS to make their comp sound better or is there truth to this ?
Would i be better off with two 8800 gts or one 8800 gtx?
I also agree wth you Frea on the GTX being more value than the Ultra too big of price dif for what little preformance difference there is.

In the majority of cases, two lower performance cards in SLI do not give a performance increase over one, more powerful video card. SLI often also necessitates more expense in other areas - a more powerful power supply for instance.

To answer your specific question, though, use the benchmarks available at Tom's Hardware.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html

I did a quick comparison of 2x8800GTS cards in SLI, with one 8800GTX card, using the default benchmark. The scores were virtually identical. Test with other benchmarks by all means, but because of this (not to mention the ~$100 premium you'll pay for 2xGTS cards) I'd go for the single GTX.

I don't know about 80% but you probably will see a performance gain if you use two GTX's instead of just one. Two Ultra's would perform better than just one Ultra. Now if they're saying two GTX's give you an 80% performance gain over one GTS...I would believe that.

If you look at past SLI set ups it appears that you get a variable performance increase that can be from 20% to 70% depending on what benchmark you are using. I know alot of sites say to figure an average of about 50% increased speed. It really depends on what benchmark you are using and what cards you are running in SLI.

Generally, two older generation cards will not beat one newer generation card. Now the 8800 GTX and GTS are both the same generation so two GTS would be close, but in some benchmarks the GTX is twice as fast as the GTS so it is unlikely that even with a 70% gain in speed the GTS in SLI would out perform it. As Freak pointed out, two GTS cards would actually cost you more and you would need a more powerful PSU also.

I still beleive SLI is for those who want the fastest to be faster and can afford it. Anyone else is better off buying a step down from the top and upgrading a year down the road when prices have dropped on what is the top today.
