no signal...?

MB- Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe

CPU- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-core 5200 2.6 GHz

Antec Case P180

RAM- Corsair 800MGz 2G

Video Card- VGA Sapphire 100214SR 2900PRO 1G R

Ultra 600w X-Finity Power Supply

I've recently put these components together and have not been able to get a signal. I removed them from the case and did a basic build outside and still nothing. These are all new parts. The next step I guess is to test each component. Can someone advise me on where I should begin?
I don't have spare parts, which means I have to order replacement parts, and I'm getting the feeling it's going to get expensive!
Please help. thanks.

Get a different power supply and try to get a better quality brand too...Ultra power supplies aren't very good. See this thread.

thanks cricket,
just to clarify, the system boots up when I turn it on. LED goes on in the MB and the CPU fan is running. But there is no feed to the monitor. Shouldn't I be looking at the video card?

thanks again.

no beeps?

you could pick a different PSU at a local store and try it. If it's not the PSU - you can return it.
wondering what kind of requirements are for PSU with this video card? That PSU could be not even close to 600W

You have to remember that the power supply supplies several different voltages to the computer and if any one of these voltage rails is bad your computer won't run. You might see some activity (LED, fans, etc...) but if one of the rails is down the system won't run properly.

Since the Ultra isn't a very good power supply anyway you might as well replace it with a good quality unit. You always want to use a good quality power supply since it's the most important component in your computer. Never go cheap or use a suspect brand when it comes to the power supply.

ok, so I tried a different PSU.
This time I used an Antec true power trio 600w and still no luck.

I'm getting worried that I'll never get this thing up and running.
Any thoughts?

thanks

Try to reseat all connections. Also try to check your monitor if it works on another computer. Is the fan continously spinning or LED stays on/blinks?

BTW, Whats your monitor?

Are you using VGA Cable or DVI? How about on your lappy?

While connected on your new build. Try to press the menu button on the monitor and check if the Monitor Menu coms up. Select the correct signal cable. Check if it helps.

DVI for both the build and powerbook.
the default display is an icon which alternates between analog/digital. When menu is pressed it says Test Good. Power light on monitor blinks, not sure if it's supposed to do that.

I think theres no problem with the monitor. Lets rule it out. Does your mobo have an Onboard Video? Or do you have another Video Card. Try to press the Caps Lock key if the LED on the keyboard lits up. If it lits up its a No Video problem if it does not respond its a No POST Problem. Try just one Ram on every slot see if that helps. post the results

I tried the caps lock test. It did not respond. I don't have another video card at the moment but will run that test soon to rule that out. Ram slots made no difference either.
I have a feeling that I'm dealing with a No Post problem. But I don't really know what that means.
can someone articulate the problem and what I should do next?
many, many thanks
