Windows Installation issue...........

My brother called me the other day and has a new hard drive he wants to install (He called me since I did his first one) the problem is his laptop doesnt have a disk drive so when i did the first one I just installed windows on it after putting the drive in my laptop which does have the drive, I also installed his wireless drivers , and drivers for his router and let him just download everything else he needed, His laptop is a Dell and the one I used at that time was a Dell but now I no longer have the Dell I have a IBM and I have come to find out it doesnt work the same if I dont use a Dell. He does have an external drive but the new hard drive doesnt recognize the external disk any suggestions on how I can install Windows on his laptop or should I just find another Dell to use?
