Welcome to PCMech. I have a few suggestions:
Drop the PSU included in the Raidmax case, they are junk. We recommend the Corsair 520HX. You need DDR2-800 RAM. Corsair is a solid brand. Bump up the hard drive to a unit with a 16MB cache instead. I'd suggest using the motherboard's onboard sound for awhile. It works pretty well. You can pop in a card later. The HSF included with your processor is plenty for cooling. No need for the extra unit.

Ok. First, that Ram won't work. Try this instead. It's a 2gb pack: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590
I would change the dvd drives to ones that have a sata connection, not ide. Third, you don't need a cpu cooler unless you're going to OC. If you're not OCing, then the stock heatsink that comes with the retail cpu will be fine. As a side note, if you need firewire and wireless, you might want to look at a different MB. Get a MB that already has that built in. Might save money and some trouble that way. |

Case will come with screws.
You should really consider changing PSUs. A low quality PSU can take the entire system out if it fails. You are risking a lot of nice computer parts to a PSU brand that is know to make low quality units. Check out this list: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 Sound card is a personal choice, but the new MB have 8 channel sound and it is very nice. Generally we sugest you give on-board sound a try and then add a sound card if you dont like it. Sound cards are easy to add at a later date. But its up to you, nothing wrong with having a sound card. Kat

I would get at least one retail dvd drive. That way it will come with nero software, and a sata cable too.

Trust what Alaron is telling you. You should really think about getting a quality PSU. Spend the extra $$$ on a high quality like Enermax or Thermaltake (Personal Choice. Used them in over a hundred rigs so far with only two crapping out on me). The PSU's that come with most cases are complete crap for a gaming rig.
You might also want to drop the 8800 GTS for the 8800 GT. It benchmarks better for the same $$ and uses less power. |

I fixed your links. The forum truncates them if you just copy, so use "Copy Shortcut".
![]() Here is the optical drive you want: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072 It comes with software. Here is a good PSU to use: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 I second gtucker's idea on the 8800GT, they look very impressive for the price. |

You'd best spring at least around $60. Go for this for $80. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004 Unluck your other one, this gives off 550Watts, excellent brand, has active power factor correction, 41Amps on 1 12V Rail, has overvoltage protection and has 85% effiency. This is also MTBF > 100,000 Hours [Mean time before failure.] You can go for your cheap one but it won't run your video card with only 18amps, it's only 430 watts at max load which is just 30 above the minimum for your video card, it doesn't have many protections, no APFC and will mostly kill your system in a year or so since it's only $30 which I would say is poor quality. I definitely wouldn't risk a high end machine with quad core and a 8800GT with a $30 PSU, the price for most PSU's are worth it, how much you pay is how much quality you'll recieve. 5 out of 6 of the members here have suggested you switch to a quality PSU but you've neglected the posts and chose a cheap low quality one. Also Gtucker probably didn't go for a $30 PSU. Last edited by wildfire; 10-29-2007 at 10:31 PM. |

I should have also mentioned that you need to spend more that $60.00 on a thermaltake or enermax. If you want to learn how to correctly account for your system requirements there is a really good article at Tom's Hardware that will go over the calculations.
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/08/...ower_supplies/ I'll second the Corsair PSU. It has the correct power requirements for the system you want to build and is good quality. It also has a power efficiency rating above 80% (minimizes waste power as heat). |

Every part looks good except you don't NEED a sound card but you can buy one of you want, that sound card isn't too expensive so it doesn't really matter though.
You don't need a retail versions of windows xp pro, you could just get the OEM version and it'd be cheaper, you just wouldn't get the manual and junk you don't need. You might also consider getting windows vista because the 8800GT won't be fully utulized with directx 9 on XP. But it's not a big difference though. |

im actually considering vista, but i would hate to learn a whole new operating system, also i can upgrade it to vista after if i just wait for my family to get it for all our computers, for now xp is fine. and i really want a sound card. and ur saying dx 9, when my video card says it supports dx 10, im going to be running crysis with this, how good will it look on dx 9, and can i even try using dx 10?

only vista supports DX10. Crysis will still look great in DX9 and the 8800GT will run it on high settings depending on the resolution you plan on using. Of course this is just based on the benchmarks I've read regarding the demo.

There will be no difference in gameplay if you ahve directX9 unless you choose very high quality on your settings.
With DX10 you can choose Very High Quality, High , Normal, Low. With DX9 You just lose the option of Very High Quality. It won't be a big deal though because I don't even think a 8800GT will able to run Crysis with Great FPS on Very High anyways. The difference between Very High and High is probably minimal like AA and AF. Like you said, you can always upgrade later, perhaps when the first service pack somes out?
