Hey, Welcome to my first build.

Hey, Well i'm new here i was going to introduce myself but there was no introductions forum so i said id dive straight in here!

I've had it with my current PC and have decided to build my own. So with limited knowledge i searched google and ended up here. Hope you can help.

It will be used mainly as a multimedia PC i.e. gaming, music, videos, film and surfing the net.

I've read the stickies and done a bit of searching but i'm no tech wizard so what i've come up with isn't alot so far. Here's what i have and hope to use, Anything with REC beside it is what i'm asking all of you for help with as i'm not too sure about them and am looking for your recommendations. Thanks.

PSU: Apevia / Iceberg / 680-Watt / ATX / Dual 80mm Fan / 20/24 Pin / SLI-Ready / SATA-Ready - http://tinyurl.com/2t3j7d

Motherboard: REC

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint T166 500GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, Serial ATA-300, OEM - http://tinyurl.com/2ugtyc

RAM: REC (around 2 to 4GB)

PRI Optical: Lite-On LH-20A1P SuperAllwrite DVD Burner - http://tinyurl.com/34vr26

SEC Optical: REC

Sound card: REC

Don't get that power supply, it's a piece of junk and will melt when pushed hard. There are better brands to choose from.

Don't get that Samsung HDD...reliability issues. Look at Seagate instead.

Can't make recommendations until we know a budget and what brand CPU you want to use...AMD or INTEL.

check out this link for quality PSUs. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

Read down the page on this forum to get some ideas for builds, if you look at new computer links with a bunch of replays you will get a good idea where recommendations are headed and why they are made. Like Cricket says, you need to post a budget for people to help. Otherwise we are shooting in the dark.

Switch your PSU to a more reliable brand, the ones highlighted in blue in th elink Katreat provided. Apevia isn't a good brand.

A motherboard that most people here recommend is the Asus P5K because it's made from a reliable brand and is just a great motherboard.

Intel is beating AMD with CPU's so get an Intel CPU, get a Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66ghz [Dual Core[ if you want the best bang for your buck but you could also spend about $100 more and get a Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz [Quad Core] to futureproof your system. Most games don't utulize 4 cores yet.

Corsair XMS2 800mhz Cas 5 2GB 2x1gb sticks is really good ram that's only around $60. Corsair is a really good brand.

Take out your Samsung hard drive and switch it to a Seagate hard drive because Seagate is a much more reliable brand.

Good choice for your Optical drive, Liteon is a good brand.

I don't know what you'd want for your second optical but LG and Liteon are good brands.

You don't need a sound card because the integrated sound on motherboards are good enough unless you want hardcore sounds and be able to hear someone sneak up behind you a mile away =/.

The 8800GT is a GREAT video card, it was just released and is about $300 cheaper than the 8800GTX and performs just a TINY bit worse than it.

I don't know what and FDD is.. >.<

You can basically choose whether you want Vista or XP. Vista has directx 10 but has a bit more bugs I think.. but it's up to you.

Floppy Disk Drive.

Regarding the FDD, unless you can think of a specific reason you are going to need one, then I wouldn't bother putting one in - nowadays you can get away without having one.

Ill be going Intel as I'm more familiar with that and after reading on here it seems to be the better option for me.

I'm not sure about the budget. I won't be buying everything in one go so it doesn't really matter but id like the end price not too exceed say 1200-1300 Euros. If more is needed to get a decent pc then i would be able.

And does anybody know if tiger direct deliver internationally (Ireland)?

Thanks for all your replies

Tigerdierct has an an on-line division in the UK at misco.co.uk
Here in the states, we try to steer people away from tigerdirect and the same I would think about Misco.

Do you know how long it will take you to gather up all the parts to build this computer? It's recommended that you buy everything at one time because of the warranty issues and you'll save on shipping. If you buy one part now and then the last part a year from now you could assemble the computer and find out the first part you bought it dead but you may not be able to return it because it's old and past the return period.

And buying parts over a period of time might mean the first part you bought at a certain amount could be a lot cheaper later on and you'd miss the savings.

And you have to really be careful that all the parts are compatible and will work together.

And you have to be careful where you keep the first few parts you get and make sure you don't damage them.

Buying computer parts one at a time over a long period of time is one of the worst ways of going about it. Better to just save your money until you hit a target amount and then buy your computer parts all at once.

Well it won't be necessarily over a long period of time, Around 2 months maybe 3 at the very max.

If that's the case you might as just wait until you have the entire amount ready. It's really better to buy everything at once...things can change in 3 months.

for FDD go for one thats combined with a memory card reader then its not a total waste of a 3.5" slot
