Gaming/Multimedia pc

Hey all,
This is the first time that im building a computer from scratch and just wanting to check if all this stuff will work together:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
Memory: G.SKILL 2GB kit (1GB x 2) DDR2-800 (PC-6400)
Mobo: XFX MB-N680-ISH9 nForce 680i REV A2 SLI INTEL LGA775
Gfx: Geforce 8800GTS
PSU: Thermaltake 500 Watt to 640 Watt PSU
Case: Thermaltake Matrix

If anyone can make any suggestions to improve this please do (im thinking the mobo is a little expensive?)

ps. I live in NZ so im not sure how helpful giving my "budget" would be but this is about my limit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If your only ever going to use 1 Graphics Card then take a look at the ASUS P5K range.

The PSU is OK, but most people would recommend something else like a Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax.

My friend has G.Skill Ram and it has been fine for him, but you might want to look at Corsair too.

Good choice on the processor, and the case is whatever you like best

I don't know if it's available in NZ yet but look for the 8800 GT, it's a much better card for you and it will cost less.
Read up on it here : http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2209197,00.asp

Thanks for the help guys,
Ive changed these things so far:
Mobo: Asustek P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA775 Intel P35 FSB 1333 DDR2 1066
Memory: Corsair XMS2 2GB PC2 6400 DDR2-800 5-5-5-12 2x1024mb
PSU: Enermax 500 Watt to 590 Watt PSU, ATX
GFX: Geforce 8800 GT, 512MB, PCI Express

I was just wondering, what does the 5-5-5-12 on the ram mean? Seems to be quite a few variations and im kinda just picking one

Those are the CAS latency times for that particualr ram. So that ram is marked as having a CAS5 which is the correct ones for your build.

Can you post a direct link to that power supply? There are so many models out there, we want to be sure you have a good unit.
