Help
Hey, Ive been looking at parts and I was wondering what is the difference between a OEM and a retail part?
Im thinking about getting a raptor hdd OEM, can anyone tell me what else I would need to get it to run, wires etc? |

A retail part will come with manuals, cables, perhaps software (depending on what you're buying.).
An OEM, original equipment manufacturer, is just the part with no "extras". The warranty may differ as well, for hard drives it can actually be longer for an OEM part, so check that when you buy. You will have to supply all "extras" but for hard drives this isn't a hassle since cables come with the motherboard.

I've noticed that many cd-drives bought online are OEM. Is it in the same boat as hard drives, or is it better to buy retail?

It's better to buy Retail for optical drives, since you get burning/dvd playback software with retail drives - most often not the case with OEM.
