Budget Build
Some parts are the same, I know. Just want to know which build you'd go with.
Build 1: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.20GHz Socket 775 800FSB 2MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130486 £74.46 Antec TruePower Trio 430W PSU - With 3x 12v Rails 120mm Fan http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114930 £40.34 Asus P5LD2 SE/C Socket 775 Core2Duo ready 945P PCI-E Onboard Audio ATX http://www.ebuyer.com/product/123821 £40.19 Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 675MHz/PC2-5400 XMS Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12) Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty http://www.ebuyer.com/product/98708 £36.49 Western Digital WD800JD Caviar SE 80GB 7200RPM SATAII 8MB Cache - OEM http://www.ebuyer.com/product/59556 £27.12 EVGA 7200GS 256MB 64bit DDR2 DVI VGA TVO PCI-E Graphics Card http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131123 £31.99 Casecom KB-7720BK Black ATX Midi Tower Case - No PSU http://www.ebuyer.com/product/108273 £10.98 LiteOn DH-16D2P 16x48 DVD-Rom Black Bare Drive - OEM http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129551 £9.92 Total - £271.49 Build 2: Corsair 1GB Kit (2x512MB) DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5400 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/92877 £19.99 Casecom KB-7720BK Black ATX Case http://www.ebuyer.com/product/108273 £10.98 Antec Basiq Power 350W ATX 2.0 12V PSU http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114928 £21.46 MSI P965 Neo-F V2 iP965 Socket 775 ATX Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131183 £54.99 MSI 8400GS 256MB DDR2 DVI VGA HDTV out PCI-E Graphics Card http://www.ebuyer.com/product/133002 £27.99 Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.20GHz Socket 775 800FSB 2MB Cache http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130486 £74.46 LiteOn LH-20A1S 20X SATA DVD±RW/DL Black Bare Drive - OEM http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127410 £17.99 Western Digital WD800JDSE 80GB 7200RPM SATAII 8MB Cache http://www.ebuyer.com/product/59556 £27.12 Total - £254.98 I'd lean torwards Build 2, simply because I think the 2GB of Ram is an overkill and unnecessary.

If there won't be gaming, I'd get a motherboard with onboard video. If it's going to have Vista, 2gb ram is NOT overkill. Make sure that Asus is compatible with the E4500, the 945 is an OLD chipset.

I'm curious why you would pick the e4500. The e6550 is only about $40 more in this country (don't know what the difference would be in England), has double the cache, and will handle a 1066 or 1333mhz FSB compared to the 800mhz limit of the e4500. Both MOBs you list have 1066FSB. Personally, I'd use the e6550, find a MOB with the P35 chipset that will use the 1333 FSB, and scrimp somewhere else.
And if you're planing on using Vista, you will need the 2gb of memory in option 1. |
