PCI e card power

On the new motherboard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 rev 2.0
there is a 4 pin socket pci E 12 volt. Instructions, if two Pci E cards plug a supply cable in there for extra power. I only have one card. Will it hurt to plug a supply cable in there anyway?
The card I have PNY 8500gt doesn't have a cable direct to the card.
