Boot problem after upgrade

Just added more memory and a Denmark 2.4 processor to the rig in my sig. Boots fine into the BIOS and the processor and memory is showing up correctly in the BIOS. My HDD shows up in the BIOS and I checked the boot configuration which has the HDD set as the 1st boot drive but I am getting the Disk Boot failure everytime. The HDD is a SATA Raptor. Trying to figure this one out here as I had an IDE storage drive that is not showing up in the BIOS anymore as the Primary Master but more concerned about just getting this thing to boot into XP from the SATA drive where XP is installed. Should the boot drive be showing up in the initial boot up screen as the primary master disk?I'd appreciate any advice that could help me figure this one out.

Have you tried to boot with the new RAM removed yet?

Hello Cricket,

Yes, I pulled the new memory out and rebooted with the same result. Found this thread, and for who knows why, I could always boot into XP before making the changes as recommended on that thread.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/18...tion-boot-sata

Made the recommended changes and now it prompts to pick the OS installation as it did before (I usually keep my system on 24/7 so that really never bothered me). And then it states that it can't read from the selected boot disk. But of course, I always had my suspicions that something wasn't setup correctly previously but it really was just a small formality.

Ran the XP disc to see if it saw the Raptor after I made the changes that the thread recommended and it does see the Raptor. I was hoping to keep my current installation but it's kind of looking that I may need to do a reformat, which may make sense as the 8800 GT I ordered comes in Monday.

I'm still looking around as to how the SATA drive should be properly seen on the BIOS bootup as the boot drive because it isn't showing up on the initial boot screen.

Swapped out IDE cables and checked the BIOS and the XP setup is showing my storage drive again.

I guess I don't want to reinstall XP and run into the boot issue again.

Thanks for any suggestions.
