Pissed No video on new build

Hey guys. Hope someone has an idea on my problem. Below are my specs for my new build.

ASUS Striker Extreme
Corsair Dominator PC8500 2 X 1GB
Enermax Galaxy 850 Watt PSU
Intel Q6600
WD Raptor 150GB
Phillips DVD Burner
Nvidia 8600GT (8800 GT's not here yet)

I have everything setup outside of the case and I'm able to get full power to the MB and initiate startup. But I'm not getting any video signal to my monitor. I checked to make sure I had it turned on first. Then checked the dvi connections. Looks good. I have the card in the middle PCI-X lane (total of 3 PCI-X slots). I tried moving the card to the other two slots with no luck. I figured it could be a bad card so used a couple of different ones but still no video. So at this point I'm thinking MB or CPU. Could I have missed something? I usually miss something really obvious when I'm having problems with a build. Any help will be greatly appreciated as always. BTW called ASUS (who I work for hahahahahahaha) for some help but they'll have to call me back sometime in the next 24 hours.

Did you plug in all motherboard power connections? Should be two...24 pin and 4 pin.

What do you have the motherboard laying on?

Do you need to plug a power connector to the video card?

Check on both MB power connections

MB is laying on that pink anti static foam that ships with some electrical equipment

video card doesn't have additional connector.

Don't use that...it conducts electricity and is shorting out your motherboard. Lay the motherboard on the motherboard box or some other cardboard or wooden surface.

Ok. Switched to a regular cardboard box but still no video. I tried all the lanes just be sure.

Do you have any DDR2 800 memory? Try that as the Asus Striker doesn't say it supports DDR2 1066.

Just a thought. That might just have to be set manually first before it runs.

That actually was part of the problem. Another problem was that out of the 4 1gb modules I purchased two were bad. I can now boot into the BIOS just fine with 2gb recognized at 800MHz. I upped the voltage to the recommended 2.1 volts for the Dominator 8500 series and this was ok too. Unfortunately once I tried to manually up the FSB to 1066 on the memory I wasn't able to boot. I am going to move this over to the overclocking section. Thanks for the hints!

Actually I see that there is no dedicated overclocking section on this forum. If any one has any ideas or is familiar with the Striker please let me know. One thing I will say is that this board is not for beginners. I would rate myself as a medium high level and this one is complicated and fussy.

If you're running 4x1gb, then you might have to down it to 800 anyway.

If it's 2x1, then it might work at 1066, but I think that's only if the mb supports it, not sure though.

Why are you even trying to run it at 1066? The correct speed with the processor running stock is 667, that's one step faster than synchronous. Synchronous operation with a 1066 processor is 533. You grossly overbought ram for that processor.

That is really interesting. The ASUS testers that I know have been running the q6600, striker extreme, and dominator 8500 C5D for awhile with the 1066 settings. I guess the reason why is I like to learn. I've never been much of an overclocker but I decided to learn all the ends and outs. Could you point me to a good overview of synchronous operation? I'm not familiar with it.

For followup I was able to get 4 GB of 8500 C5D stable at 1066 Mhz on 5-5-5-15-22-2T timings using 2.0 volts on the striker MB. I also have the Q6600 overclocked stable at 3.3 Ghz at 1.42 Volt on vcore. I used Super PI, ntune, and 3DMark06 to ensure stability.

Have you checked the ram stability with memtest?

I'm glad you brought that up. I haven't been able to get memtest to work. I tried burning the ISO file to a cd and then boot to cd drive but nothing happens. Did I possibly burn the file incorrectly? I don't have a floppy drive on this system so CD was my best shot. That's why I used the system stability test on ntune. I just selected RAM testing and ran for an hour. There were no errors detected and so far all my games have been running fine.

What program did you use to burn the iso?

Did you select burn image?

Did you set cd drive to boot first in bios?

I just used windows as I didn't have a Nero edition that worked on Vista 64bit. i think i just burned the file not an image.

I will use my wife's computer to burn the actual image using Nero and then see if it works. I did set the primary boot to CD in BIOS.

I have Nero 7 that works with Vista 64.

And you definately need to burn it as an image.

Let us know how it goes.
