Power Supply DOA?
JUst put together my new system and when the power is turned on I get nothing. I verified power to the power supply. After disconnecting everything from the motherboard, i tried powering just the power supply and got nothing. The fan does not turn, no sound of any kind. Is it safe to assume the PSU (Antec Neo 550) is DOA?

Would start first with doing an out of case build with just the basic parts: motherboard/CPU with heatsink/PSU/1 stick ram/and video card.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=168456 This will eliminate possible problems of electric shorts to the case.

Psu Doa?
Thanks for the replies. I tried a minimal setup but still nothing. I don't have any extra HDs or fans to try on the PSU alone. I must admit, I'm very discouraged as this is my first build and my worst fear has come about: A failure and no way to test components except to replace them one at a time.

Did you follow the out of the case procedures that Flanzig linked you to?

I hear your pain....... I, too, have just completed my first build and encountered an unknown problem that could ultimately be only diagnosed by trying known working parts and putting suspected bad parts in another machine. Turns out that I had a bad video card.
When I started my build, I followed the out of case procedures before the motherboard was ever installed in the case. That way, when it came to isolating a defective component, I could, at least for the moment, eliminate the motherboard, cpu, power supply, video card, and memory. Unfortunately, in my case, the video card trouble came when Vista tried to load drivers for it. You mentioned doing a minimal setuup, but was it done out of the case? From what I understand, the "out of case" part is very important as to eliminate a short being the case of the problem. |

OK, I got it running. I followed the procedures that Flanzig forwarded and pinned it down to a bad connector in the start button circuit. A few adjustments with some needlenose pliers and i was in business.
Thanks to everyone who helped. This is a really great forum. Tanker |
