First PC Build - User Opinions

i'm starting my first PC build! for gaming especially. anyways, here's my list:

- NZXT Zero Black/Silver Aluminum ATX Full Tower $159.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146029 $159.99

or

- COOLER MASTER Stacker 830 Evolution RC-830-KKN2-GP $259.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119122

- ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA / SE LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard $279.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131221

- EVGA 8800 GTX Superclocked 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 $549.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814130072

or

- EVGA 512-P3-N806-A1 GeForce 8800GT SSC 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 $329.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130302

- Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W SLI Ready-ATX12V V2.01 Power Supply $59.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817182032

- Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s $69.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822148262

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 $279.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819115017

- Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB(4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad Kit $139.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820220267

- SAMSUNG 204BW Black 20" 6ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor $259.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16824001087

- SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner $33.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16827151153

- Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM $179.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16832116215

TOTAL: w/8800 GTX = $2,113.90
w/8800 GT = $1,893.90

but i'm concerned the heating issue with the 8800 GT. from reading reviews over at newegg, people are saying that the 8800 GT heats up to 83C when playing games. so that's why i have 2 choices of cases. both are good for cooling. but my concern with the Cooler Master is the weight. i googled to find out the weight of the Stacker 830, and the results that i got was 40LBS. is that true? but i don't think that will be a big issue because the only time i'll be carrying the case around is to my computer desk.

the parts look good, but get rid of the rosewill psu there garbage.. Use this guide it shows
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195
which are good and which are not recvommended.. Right now the Corsair brand of psu are top notch and recommended in builds.. If you want to save cash I would go with the 8800 over the 8800 gt..Next Lite-on are far better than Samsung drives and come with nero burning software retail not oem... I would also recommend corsair XMS series ram with a cas5 lantcy over patriot.. don't know much about patriot, but corsair is highly recommended and quality is very good..

Not a bad list, but I have a few tweaks.

First, the X38 chipset is too new to recommend. Stick with a more proven motherboard like the Asus P5K series.

Second, skip the Rosewill power supply. We recommend Corsair units for gaming systems. The 520HX is a good choice.

Here is the LiteOn to grab, it comes with software: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072

The CoolerMaster case being 40lbs would not surprise me at all.

If you're just concerned about airflow the Antec 900 has a huge ammount of airflow and it is cheaper than your two other case choices:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021
Also, I wouldn't worry about 83*C temperatures. Modern video cards are designed to handle them. My X1950XT doesn't automatically up the fan speed until the card hits 70*C. When playing the new Need For Speed Pro Street demo my video card hit 89*C and it still works fine.

You would probably get more bang for your buck with the 8800gt. The 8800gtx will perform better, but personally I'm not sure it's worth the difference in price.

Also, I would get ram that's 2x2gb instead of 4x1gb.

Other then that, I would fiollow others advice.

Personally, I would not spend that much on a case. But that is up to you. The Antec Nine Hundred is a lot cheaper but it still has good airflow.

You also might want to consider 4GB's of DDR2 1066 for $0.99 more (no mail in reabate though) It will allow you a lot more OC ability if you ever decide to overclock your CPU. If my memory serves me correctly, Geil is a good company for ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144110

I have also heard that 64bit OS's have lots of driver issues, but I don't have any firsthand experience.

You can also get a 22" Samsung widescreen with basically the same specs (but 2" larger screen) for only $10 more:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001240

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like that motherboard only supports DDR3 Ram. Perhaps this is what you were looking for: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131182

Enjoy your build!

Correct, that's DDR3 only. To save some bucks, look at the P5K-E or P5K-E Wifi/AP unless you need the extra features of the Deluxe.

I'm not sure what you mean by "start buying your parts", but it is a good idea to buy them all together. That will save you money on shipping. Plus, if you wait months before you have all of your parts, they will already be starting to become obselete.
You also might want to post the final list for us to check over.

Just so you know, Newegg has both of the other EVGA overclocked 8800GT's in stock right now if you don't want to wait until the 19th:

i'm back again. i haven't started my purchase yet since i've started this thread. but this week i will be purchasing two things because its been kinda tough for these past few weeks. with all this christmas shopping, and paying bills, i haven't been able to save some money for myself. so now, since all of the x-mas shopping is out of the way, i can now start buying things for myself . i'm still going with the list that i last posted on this thread. so, i'll be purchasing the cooler master stacker 830 evo KKN3 not the KKN2 because they don't sell that anymore over at newegg, plus, the price has dropped, which is pretty cool. and along with my case, i'll get the ASUS P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX mobo. if you have any other suggestions on the mobo let me know. but the case, i'm 100% positive that i'll be purchasing that.

Cooler Master
