A computer I built tuns on and lights up for a second and then turns off.

I built a computer for a friend, but now after a few months it will only turn on for a second, lights up, but it all turns off. It keeps doing this. How can I fix this?

Try this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409

List the parts. Make and model. PSU included.

With just the motherboard, cpu, power supply and power switch attached, the computer still turns on and then a second later shuts off. The specs is a Powmax 400w, PcChips motherboard, Pentium 4 2.4 cpu. From a technical stand point, why would it do this?

Possibly because Powmax power supplies and PC Chips motherboards are both cheap trash.

Sorry about that, I don't mean to slam you, but we are pretty brutal here about substandard quality components. I'd rather buy a refurbished Dell than build with stuff like that if I'm on a tight budget. The system in your sig was done right, the one you built for your friend was not.
