What is "major bottleneck"?

Hey guys,

I am about to build my own workstation and I want to follow this guy's build, or his guidelines to a very good trading computer. So, i need to know what this means:

He's currently running this:
Intel E6850 3.0 GHz Dual-Core, Vista Business 64 Bit
4 GB 800 FSB RAM (major bottleneck, CPU is 1333 FSB)

what does "MAJOR BOTTLENECK" mean?

Thanks

Well, unless he is OC'ing the system 800 ram should be fine with a 1333 FSB processor.

Now I did read somewhere that if you use 4 g of ram it steps down to 667 on some MB so maybe that is what he is refering too. But I think that had something to do with filling all 4 slots and you can get around it by using 2 x 2gb ram sticks.

Thats about all I can think of. You want the ram speed a step above the processor speed and DDR2 800 meets that requirement. If the ram is running at its rated speed it should not be a bottle neck to the system.

That is correct.

And I don't see any type of bottleneck.

It could be that the fellow who posted that forgot to take into account that new ram is "double rate". You need to double the ram speed to determine what speed it is running at.

Actually the ram is double rate and the processor is quad rate. The base bus on a 1333 processor is 333. Double that and 667 ram would be synchronous, running ONE step faster is stable and does improve things. Two steps faster doesn't add much and can be unstable.
