Building a new tower

Ok this is my first time building a tower I don't need a monitor, keyboard, or mouse. I've got that covered. First thing I need to know is weather or not all of these items are compatable with each other and/or are as good as people have told me. Second can you please recomend the other items needed? Third in the begings of this tower I plan to only run one video card and one proccesor untill I can get the funds for the others. Will this cause any problems? I know it will be slower but anything other than that? I would also like to know if I should run XP home that I already have on my old machine or use Vista (version recomendations would be greatly apprecated).
Parts I picked out
Motherboard NVIDIA nForce 680a SLI MCP SSI CEB AMD

Processor AMD Athlon 64 FX-74 Windsor 3.0GHz

Video Card GeForce 8800GT 512mb

Memory G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB)

Case Antec Performance One P190 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower

Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to PCMech.

I would really rethink the Dual Athlon FX setup. The cost is not worth the returns. Check some benchmarks on the subject. You'll get a heck of a lot more bang for the buck from a simpler setup, AMD or Intel. Look at either the M2N-E and a 6000+ or an Asus P5K and Intel E6750 CPU.

Bump up the RAM to DDR2-800. It is required for AMD setups and the best match for Intel chips.

Good video card choice.

That is a nice case but the power supply is way overkill. You only need a quality 500w unit to run the simpler setup I suggested with the 8800GT.

Check out Seagate 7200.10/11 SATA hard drives. The 320GB is a nice price/GB right now.
We recommend LiteOn Retail SATA DVD Burners. They come with Nero software.
