Hard drives

Just for fun I'm trying (and it's trying me severely) to build a PC,. originally with salvaged parts where possible, but that proved out and all parts are new. It's completed now and when I came to load the OS Wins XP, all files went on OK, but when it came to setting up Windows, a message came up saying that it couldn't find a hard drive. Check all connections. I checked all connections and combinations, but still no luck. It's a new Seagate sata hard drive. Anybody, please, got any ideas for exciting my PC to find the drive? Hillyar.

Please post the complete system specs for this computer. List all the parts by brand and model including the power supply. Thank you.

You probably need a SATA driver on a floppy. The only spec we need is the exact motherboard model.

Sata hard drives

Thank you Cricket and GLC.. Have now got a RAID driver from the motherboard support CD onto a floppy and all seems fine. The motherboard is an ECS K8 M860, apparently no longer made. Regards,Hillyar.

Well, all seemed fine - it made the right noises, showed the right pictures - but it wasn't, and wouldn't recognise the HDD again. Must have been somehow a one-off CD boot.
My real problem - I was trying to connect a Sata 2 HDD to a motherboard that only supports Sata 1
The answer - put a jumper on the HDD jumper pins, or install a Serial Ata PCI Card. Hillyar, Portugal.
