Talking Is it possible...

To run a psp screen using a desktop computer?

It's a weird request I know, but I'm just curious.

Probably not. You will need a LCD controller that is specific to the screen and I doubt you find one for that particular screen.

Alright that's pretty much what I needed to hear.

What other relatively small screen options do I have? I was planning to do an in car type computer.

I was looking for something around a 5-6 inch screen size with the possibility for 800x600 resolution.

The PSP screen was more of a compromise than anything.

It would probably be easiest to just buy a retail small screen.

Something like this

Good Suggestion, but I think I am looking for something a bit on the thinner side:

Looking for a sub 2" width. Preferably around 1.5".

In any case, I just had a pretty good idea: Would a PS lcd screen or Gamecube lcd maybe work?I'm not sure whether the lcd controller is contained within the lcd or in the game system.

The one I linked to is only 1.75" deep. Depends on how the video is input. To get an LCD to display anything you need the controller to transform the signal to the LCD. Typically for a laptop or similar device the controller takes the signal from the video card then outputs to the screen. You can buy controller that has standard inputs, such as VGA or RCA but they are are custom made and kind of hard to find. There isn't really a way to just hook up a LCD unless it has the appropriate inputs. Which is why trying to salvage a screen from something like what you posted isn't likely. You could buy a small LCD monitor, like the one I linked, strip it down and make a custom bezel yourself if space is an issue.

It's true I could just create a custom bezel. I wonder what the actual width of the lcd plus accompanying electronics is. Looking at a ruler, I guess I'm shooting for less than an inch on my lcd setup. I don't know what I was thinking when I said 2 inches, but that little lcd you linked is a place to start.

I guess I always thought they would have a cable that go from a monitor output on the a mobo to your typical rca jacks.

Ignorance is bliss sometimes.
