SLI or Xfire

Which one gets more of a performance gain with multi GPU's? planing on building a a new Gaming PC based on AMD/ATI's new spider platform, but not sure whats better Xfire or SLI.

Unless you are going with two top of the line cards, people here aren't recommending either since cost versus performance gains isn't worth it.

They are both the same technology, just a differnet name.
