Computer Doesn't Work

I've just put my new computer together. This is the first time I've done this. I followed several online how to guides and believe that I have everything connected correctly. When I turn the computer on, only my fans turn on. I do not see a HD indicator light and my monitor does not receive any info. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should check?

Thank you.

Try this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409

Make sure you do this outside of the case.

If you still get no results, post back and list all parts, both make and model including psu.

I rechecked connections and found one I missed. Everything has started now. I seem to be stuck at a new point. The computer is trying to find a boot disk. I do not have a boot disk. I have an OEM copy of Win XP. When I put that disk in the drive, it does not work to boot the computer.

Any ideas?

Have you gone into bios and set the cd drive to boot first?

It is set up to boot from DVD-ROM first, yet the DVD-ROM does not light when it boots.

I get the message:

no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key

I think the problem now is that the dvd rom is not being recognized. It won't boot from it.

When you boot up the computer, are you able to press the button on your DVD drive to open it? If it doesn't open, then are you sure you have all the connections to it wired up correctly?

What interface is the DVD drive? IDE or SATA?
