help..are these specs ok?

hi! It's my first time to build my own pc and i was wondering if these specs are ok..
all of these items are within my budget and i have easy access to it.
any help would be appreciated..I know almost nothing about things like these.. thanks.

Processor: AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+ 2.3GHz, 2GHz HyperTransport
Motherboard: MSI K9AGM3-F (AMD690V)
Audio: Audio on board
Video Card: GeForce8600GT DDR3

Welcome to PCMech.

Your motherboard uses the AM2 socket, the current one for AMD chips. The CPU in your list though is an older socket, 939, so it won't fit. Check out the 5000 and 6000 series chips that use AM2.

Check out the Asus M2N-E motherboard as well. MSI boards are ok, but Asus is the best.

Go with Corsair RAM instead of Kingston. They have had some quality issues.

Double check that your DVD Burner comes with software.

Do you need a case/power supply?

Actually the CPU listed is an AM2.

But I agree with Alaron about picking out something a little more powerful for what 4400 cost.

uhm,so what should I do, change the motherboard or the CPU?
Any suggestions for the processor?
Does the case come with a power supply? How many watts do I need?
And can you pls tell me the difference between the Asua M2N8-VMX and Asus M2S-X?
I searched it in the Asus website but i honestly don't understand what any of it means...

I believe the Athlon64 X2 4400+ 2.3GHz is a dual core AM2 CPU, not a 939. The ASUS M2n-E is a good choice for a motherboard.

Stick with AM2 but the 4400 cost a lot on newegg. I would find something different.

Where are planning on buying everything?

Some cases come with a power supply but they usually are not very good. As far as watt any quality 450+ is probably plenty for what you listed.
