Possible Build?

Hey I was wondering, is it possible to build a computer for under $1,000 with specs like this?:

Processor: 2.6(+) GHz
RAM: 3(+) GB
HD: 300(+) GB
Windows Vista: Premium
Video Card: [i]Will probably get seperate, I heard that's the best way [GeForce 8800 GTS])

I was also wondering, should I just buy a pre-built computer from newegg or order separate parts on new egg?

I was thinking something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229003 which I could get maybe 2 more GB's of RAM and then it would be fine. Is the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ processor any good? How much speed?

The 1st thing you need to do is find out what you want with your new PC. If you want a gaming build, you'll need a few more bucks to make it worth your while. You also need to include things like a monitor, speakers, peripherals...

These things add up quite quickly.

I do want a gaming system, but it doesn't have to exceed those specs, for now thats just fine. I can move my budget from $500-$1,1000 anywhere aroudn there is fine. I can get up to $1,100 by around early January. I can save up more and be more patient if you think I should wait.

The main thing I want to know is, what should I do:

--- Buy parts separate
or
--- Buy as a whole

Do you need things like a monitor/keyboard/speakers? If you do, it might be better to get a bundled system just because of how expensive that stuff gets.

Have a look here, its a start, then you should say what exactly do you need... monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.

If you buy a pre-built computer for $1,100 it would hardly be considered a gaming rig...those generally start at $1,500 and go up from there. The median price for a true pre-built hardcore gaming rig being around $2,500 or so.

But can you build a decent gaming rig for $1,100? Well, that depends on the games you plan to play. A $1,100 gaming rig will be able to play most games out there but it'll probably struggle with newer games that are released soon after your computer is built. But it will definitely be a better computer than any pre-built you could buy for $1,100.

I have all the peripherals. I want to just let you know I am aiming to run these games:

Call of duty 4 and Quake Enemy Territory at a good level, not high level but good also not bad.

So base the minimum price on that please, thanks.

Sorry if I make typo's, typing this without my contacts on.

Heck, you could get a PC like mine and run that stuff. CoD4 looks incredible on low settings (mine are on medium), so we should have no problem. I can help spec something out for you, but it is late. I'll post back in the morning.

Yeah that's what I am planning my computer on. I just want to be able to run those two games at a good level, high end. I can just get a super great graphics card later on when I have the money but not now.

Thanks, I really appreciate it, hope you can find some nice build for me that's under $1,000.

If you find something a little over that price, just let me know I can be a little more patient.

But I need a new computer before January.
