Smile New PC Build for General Office Stuff

Hello all

Been a while since I was last on here and am just checking what you think of the following. Its just a basic build for doing office tasks etc and some database work.

MSI motherboard P4M900M2–L LGA775 VIA P4M900 on board VGA micro ATX

Colors IT 6003-C45 Black/Grey Micro ATX Case 350W

Intel CPU Pentium DualCore E2160 2x1.80GHz 800MHz 1Mb LGA775 Retail

Kingston 2GB Value RAM DDR2 667MHz PC5300 memory (Kit of 2)

160GB Samsung HD160HJ SATA II 300 7200rpm 8mb cache Hard Disk Drive oem

Lite-on DH-20A4P-21C IDE 20x DL DVD +/-R/RW RAM Black bare drive +software

Fortunately the chap its for already has a keyboard/mouse/Monitor etc.

Let me know what you think and if there are any glaring mistakes etc!

Many Thanks

I would recommend getting a better motherboard, MSIs aren't that great. For just basic office stuff, look at Intel boards. Be sure to get a good PSU like an Antec, Corsair, Enermax, or FSP. I doubt the one in that case is very good. Also, go with a Seagate or Western Digital hard drive, Samsungs are no good.

Take a look at these parts:
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098 (It's cheaper and better quality)

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121036

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 (May be a little overkill, but that's OK)

Hope that helps.

Good advise...but just want to stick up for MSI a bit. They have many decent boards. That VIA chipset is what is scary. (Been servicing some VIA boards and learning the hard way on that one.) Intels are considered better, on the whole, for business boxes.

Touch no more on ANY of the VIA chipset boards - they are not rock solid enough.

Get at least a simple 945 board like Asus and Gigabyte. They are good and decent.

Whatever you do, don't get that Colors IT Case & PSU, they are crap.
The Antec Sonata III that comes with a 500W PSU is pretty cheap for such good quality.
