ECS troubleshooting

I do not have a new build but a heavily modded and worked on system. I was trying to install an ATI video card and had a lot of problems with startup. Finally my system would not boot and I checked out the drive as well as tried to reload the bios.

Nothing has seemed to work. I have looked at drive and finally just decided to reload windows on a clear drive so put drive into other system and formatted. Removed and tried to start up in first computer and it still will not boot up.

During boot i have tried to use top hat flash on ECS KA3 MVP but it does not redo bios. During boot it shows first ECS splash screen and then goes blank it will not let me use dlete to get into bios to start up the disc or anything else.

Any suggestion would be helpful.

ECS KA3 MVP Mobo WD 250 GB 7200 sata drive

ultra products x3 800 watt power supply tests fine using Apevia power supply tester

memory works fine on other computer

any ideas would be appreciated

Jeff

It could be a bad power supply. Ultras a not good units. Do you have another power supply your could try?

When you cleared the CMOS did you unplug the power cord from the wall outlet?

Does the computer boot up and stay on if you disconnect all the drives from the motherboard?

Ultra and Apevia are two brands that don't have a very good reputation on this forum...I wouldn't trust the power supply or the power supply tester.

There is also the chance that the ECS motherboard just happened to die when you upgrading to the ATi video card.

What was the original video card? Which ATi are you upgrading to?

Does the computer work if you put the old video card back in?

It's not the PSU, I tried another same thing.

I tried using other hdd and same thing.

I tried using different video card, this mobo does not have onboard video, same thing.

computer had no power cord when i did the cmos clear. i even tried to measure voltage at battery to discharge board and make sure no power in bios circuit.

when i turn on computer the bios splash screen comes on for several seconds and goes black then nothing. unplugging drives does nothing.

the new video card i was reviewing is the visiontek hd2600 xt small form factor, took out nvidia 8400 and have tried system with both nvidia 8400 and another hd 2600 xt, not the small form factor.

i have tried to use top hast flash and it does the same thing with the splash screen and then nothing.

seems to me something is gone from the bios and can't come back.

thanks for the suggestions.

If you tried a different power supply, video card, hard drive, with and without drives, it sounds like the ECS motherboard died to me.

That is what I was thinking, thanks.

I have run this one into the ground so to speak. I review games and pc hardware and have changed a lot of stuff on it, just about everything except the southbridge heatsink. It has lasted a long time and I am kind of surprised I haven't had a major problem with it before now.

Thanks for all your help.
