New build

Hello everyone,

What do you guys think of these items? I have been lurking in the forums and have found what I think would work out pretty good but Im not quite sure. If you notice anything you would change let me know. This will be primarily a gaming PC.

Case: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16811147001

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131196

Video: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814130303

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817139001

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819115029

Ram: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820145175

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822148139

Keyboard/Mouse: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16823126016

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16824001088

CD/DVD: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16827106072

Speakers: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16836121123

OS: This is the main place where I am unsure. I am confused as to whether I want XP or Vista, and then which version.

Thanks

Change the HD to a sata connection.

Other then that, it looks good to go.

I personally like Vista.

Do you need the Wifi motherboard? You could save some money by going with a model without that.

I do, our whole house is wireless and I figure why not just get the wifi mobo instead of having to buy the USB wifi from linksys or something.

Negotiate the speaker w/ Newegg rep: You can get it OEM for 34 W/ Tax + S&H from Amazon, so I guess try.

For vista, look here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=174704

I would think that the two most common ones would be home premium, and ultimate. Just compare the features and see which one sounds better for you.

And since you're not getting 4gb of ram, then you don't need the 64bit version either.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116202

I don't even know if I want vista..would XP be better? I went ahead and ordered everything but the OS because I am still undecided on what to get. Help would be appreciated. Thanks

That's the one.

It's a toss up between xp and vista. It becomes personal preference right now. Me personally, I like Vista and am happy with it.

Are there huge performance losses when running vista versus XP or is that a myth?

I think that as of right now, xp performs better, but you also have to think that you're building a good computer. And realistically, I doubt that if you use good quality parts that you would notice.

Some say vista is faster, others say xp is.

I was wondering..what's the difference between the video card I got and all the ones that are sold out?

Edit: Looks like the one I ordered is sold out now too, but I meant the ones that have been sold out for a week or so.

Speedfan usually works fine but some motherboards are unable to change the fan speeds for some reason. For more functionality wou might try MotherboardMonitor

Ok, I have built everything and when I went to power up for the first time it went to a screen that said something to the effect of "Fail to see Master IDE Aborting!". This is very confusing to me because I have a SATA HDD. Everything else looks like it runs fine but I can't tell. This problem happens before BIOS starts up. Thanks.
