First build, need help
Iv just finished the hardware section of putting my computer together, but when i plug it into the mains and hook everything up, i press the power button and nothing happens, i could list my parts if it would help. Does anyone have any theorys on why this happens? They are all new parts and iv checked all the cables, i made it using a guide found on pcmech. thanks

Try this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409
Make sure it's out of the case when you do that. And please list all parts, make and model including PSU if you still have any problems.

So with just the video card, one stick of ram, the processesor and mb connected with the power supply you get nothing?
Do you have both the 24 pin and 4 pin power comnnected to the mb? |

If you answer yes to my questions above, then I would suspect the power supply before anything else.

If you have them attached, the first thing i would try to do is get another power supply to try out and see if that works.

nm seems my brother sold that ones psu. i ran a circuit checker over the cables and it showed power going through it so now i am confused. Do you think 400w is enough for that system?

If he had to hit it for it too work, i wouldn't even use it. A bad power supply could take a lot of other expensive parts with it when it dies.
Better off spending a little bit now instead of a lot later on. Here is a link for good PSU: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 EDIT: Make sure your monitor is set to digital input. Look for an input or soiurce selection on the monitor itself. |
