New computer build

Hey everyone,
I am new and was looking at advice. I built a computer a couple years ago and kind of left the gaming scene for a while. I am trying to get back in it and have compiled a couple parts and was wondering how they looked.

Thanks
dan

Don't forget a cd drive.

I wouldn't use the power supply that comes with that case.

Also, for a good gaming rig, you might want to up that video card. Right now the sweet spot is the 8800gt or the 3850(I believe).

Not sure about AMD boards or processors, someone else will comment on that.

HD and Ram look good though.

Very few cases come with quality power supplies. One that does is the sonata III.

Here's a link about good power supplies: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

Because the PSU is the MOST important part of a computer. If the PSU fails to give enough power, it won't boot or if it has too little amps, it won't boot. If it's built poorly and it's voltages are messed up or like the 12V rail spikes like in Bestec PSU's you'd have an entire blown system.

If you choose to get any old cheap PSU, than in about a year I'd say the PSU would most likely die out on you and probably take out some parts of the computer with it.

Choose a quality PSU.

If you're getting a retail CPU you don't need a separate heatsink (and you really don't want a Rosewill heatsink). The retail CPU comes with the proper heatsink and you have to use it or you'll lose the 3 year warranty that comes with a retail CPU.

What kind of games are you thinking of playing?

What is your budget?

Would drop the Coolmax PSU, they aren't that great and the one you picked looks to be more of an older ATX 1.0 type PSU. If your looking for a good low cost PSU, look to FSP. They have a couple of 500w units that are reasonably priced.

Also look ath the P5K mb line instead.

And you don't need the artic silver unless you're adding a different heatsink for overclocking. The retail processesor comes ready to go.

I don't know if you already have an OS but if you don't, you'll have to tack on another 100 or so smackaroos

Also I've been out of the loops for a few months but I'm not sure that you would get a reasonable performance boost from two 8600gt's in SLI. I've owned a few of the 8600's and I wasn't really impressed at all with them. For about the same price you can get a single 8800gt, which I guess is the bees knees from what I've been reading. Plus down the road you could always pick up another 8800gt I guess. I'm actually waiting for a response myself about it in my thread but it's at least worth looking into.

Also, also, that is an awesome deal on that Corsair XMS I'd jump on that like I would jump on Kathleen Robertson if she left me an opening.

Sounds great buddy! I'm jealous though I wish I could throw down for a Crosshair, but instead I need to upgrade my vid card :/ Haha oh well

That Am2 6400 is an awesome processor. You are going to have a great experience with it. Good choice.
The video card you chose is also a nice one. My brother is using one and he plays supreme commander with it in full mode.
Rosewill power supplies are aweful. I recommend you get a sparkle, antec or FSP. Rosewill are very low quality, I have tried them in the past and I wouldn't trust them with a nice rig like you are building.
Good luck

Cooler Master power supplies aren't that good either...they have a habit of dying when they're pushed to the limit. Look at Corsair, Fortron Source, PC Power & Cooling, Seasonic or Sparkle Power instead.

Get the EVGA 8600GT instead of the PNY.

There is always a small chance of that. No production run has a 100% good rate, but there is no sense worrying about that. Just build the system when you get the parts and we can help you troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
